The Oblate of St Benedict are men and women who are not monks or nuns and who, by their free will, have taken up the challenge of living out the Rule of St Benedict as much as possible in their daily lives. They are closely connected with the monks of the monastery and share in their lives as much as is possible. The name "oblate" signifies one who is dedicated to religious life and the work of religion. Over the centuries, the Oblate of St Benedict has participated in the life of the monks in ever more positive measures from helping in building monasteries to joining in the work of charity with the monks
Besides all that the oblates do for and in the name of the monks, of greater importance is the need to live out the Rule of St Benedict in their daily lives as much as is applicable.
